The Item Every DIY Decorator Should Have

I love to decorate. Thinking up ways to make my house look better, and then putting those ideas into action, is pretty addictive.

It can also get expensive.

I'd love it if my wallet could somehow instantly refill itself so every time I wanted to make a change I could just run out to the store and buy something new. But unfortunately that isn't the case, and I've learned that a lot of times the best and most cost-effective way to make a change is to repurpose what I've already got.

There are a few things that I like to have on hand as easy ways to change the look of an item I already own. And one of my favorites, that I think every DIYer should have around, is this:

Hemp Cord. Also known as Jute.

This stuff can be used in a ton of different ways. Here are a few of the ways I've used it:

To cover an ugly light fixture:

To help turn a plastic bucket into a planter:

To make an ugly pot pretty:

To turn a plastic drinking cup into a decorative planter:

To hang kids' artwork clothes-line style:

Obviously my favorite way to use this stuff is to cover things with it. Hemp cord gives a great natural look to any item and can quickly turn an unattractive piece into your favorite part of a room's decor.

Soothing Spring is Here… Decorate your home with an assortment of flowers

Think spring, think of flowers. Flowers make you smile. Re-invent your décor and throw life into your space with vibrant blooms. Do away with the conventional vases, put on your creative cap and come up with your own floral arrangement ideas. Those of you looking to perk up your décor without burning a hole in your pocket, flowers are a great idea.

All thanks to the smith family over at Houseofsmiths.com for sharing easy flower décor ideas for the upcoming spring season.

Spring has arrived and it is time to make a few changes in your décor. Here is one cue to make your home brighter and happier this season. Without investing too much time, money and effort, you can give your space an instant facelift with floral arrangements. The conventional-styled ‘flowers in a vase arrangement’ is passé. Get a little creative. Put together empty bottles, cylindrical clear glass jars, canisters or even metal holders. Try creating a mélange with an array of shapes and sizes.

There is no need to go in for really expensive flowers. You can strew in twigs and branches with leaves for added effect. Get in a selection of indoor plants and create a small nature stop near your window. Plant some creepers for the lush green effect.

If you want to complement the other elements in the room, match the blooms with any piece of furniture or artwork so that the look is carried through in the decor. Or randomly add a splash of color to your space with vibrant flowers.

Change the flowers often for a clean, fresh look. Some of the faux pas ones also look as amazing as fresh flowers.

Little ideas make a big difference to your décor. Do share some of your greening ideas and experiences with floral arrangements.
